Safety valves are used for closed drinking-water heaters with a volume of over 3 litres to protect them against excessively high pressures.
When exceeding the maximum permissible system pressure, the safety valve opens and relieves the expansion volume from the closed system into the open.
When the system pressure has dropped again to a permissible value, the safety valve closes automatically.
